Introduction to the Oklahoma
Health and Physical Education Framework
Welcome to the OK Health and Physical Education Framework
With the adoption of the Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS) for Health and Physical Education in the spring of 2023, it has been the priority of the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) to ensure all Oklahoma educators are provided with the opportunity to deeply understand the intent of the standards, while supporting educators with a vision and resources that promote effective implementation of the standards.
For this Framework, a writing team of experienced Oklahoma health and physical educators have analyzed the standards' learning objectives and have provided guidance for focus, instructional tasks, and resource recommendations. For each objective in the new OAS-HE and OAS-PE, the OK Health and Physical Education Framework provides an objective analysis, which provides examples of teacher actions and student actions, that incorporate discipline-specific practices with content, as required by each objective. The Framework's key concepts and teacher insights provide additional guidance for student mastery of each objective. By 2024, the writing team will provide formative and summative assessment ideas, and universal design for learning (UDL) examples to support ambitious teaching and learning for all students in health and physical education classrooms. Framework ideas and recommendations are not intended as a mandate or an exhaustive listing of instructional resources, but merely represent suggestions from reliable sources.
